Day 17 continued

Driving from Ft. Nelson to Watson Lake on Tuesday, June 2nd, the truck did not want to shift out of 2nd gear. This started about 5o miles into are 300 mile drive. We stopped for a few minutes and turned off the truck. When we started again everything was fine until the last 50 miles. When we got to Watson Lake we looked for a mechanic but there isn't much in Watson Lake plus it was 5pm. What to Do?? Push forward to Whitehorse where there was a Ford Dealer.
WELL, just like a faithful Dog the truck acted normal and got us safely to Whitehorse. David took her to the ford dealer around 2:30, which was only about a 4 mile drive. It was stuck in 2nd gear the whole 4 miles..The transmission guy took her for a ride and she was still stuck. He thought there might be dirt stuck in one of the valves. As David explained it to me, there are several spring loaded valves in the transmission and when it shifts they open and close. It may have gotten dirt that floats around in the transmission, thus causing it to happen sometimes and sometimes not. The transmission guy was draining the transmission oil and took the cover pan off andtomorrow morning was going to clean the valves and flush out the system. The transmission appears to be fine. They brought David back to the RV park and will pick us up when it is done hopefully tomorrow.

Day 18

The truck is done. We are lighter in the pocket but happy campers. The Ford dealer was really good to us and got it taken care of so we can continue our trip without skipping a beat. The problem was as described above. We also filled up with diesel today and it was $3.46 a gallon. 103 gallons. OUCH. Last summer in Phoenix we paid $$.53 per gallon so we should be happy!!

Tomorrow we are heading to Dawson City for 2 days looking for Gold!! Then we will enter Alaska on Sunday. Back in the good old USA..
