GLASS BEACH

Around 1949 the area around Glass Beach became a public dump. All kinds of things were dumped into the ocean which, of course, included lots of glass. In 1967 the North Coast Water Quality Board recognized what a mistake and began plans for a new dump area away from the ocean. Now after 30 years Mother Nature reclaimed the beach. Years of pounding wave action have deposited tons of polished glass onto the beach.
