MANUELITO AREA

This area contained many Indian pueblos dating from AD 500 to 1325, when it was abandoned . Navajos
settled he by 1800. This was the home of Manuelito, one of the last of the chiefs to surrender for confinement at the Bosque Redondo Reservation near Fort Sumner. The Navajos returned here in 1868.

We stopped at the New Mexico Welcome Center and when getting back in the truck David noticed that the back tire on the truck was low. We were able to drive to Gallup to find a truck stop that had a repair center.

We were lucky to stop at a Love's truck stop and they were not busy. Can you believe that when he took the tire off that it was another screw just like the one that was in the 5th wheel tire. Don't know where these were picked up!!

So we made it to Albuquerque and got to our campground. As you can see there is many different kinds of campers and modes of transportation. Our grandson, Nolan, would have loved to see this car. It looks like Doc Hudson from the movie Cars..

I probably will not update tomorrow. We will be in Colorado and the RV park where we will be staying does not have WIFI. Saturday we will stop at the Grand Sand Dunes National Park and then to the Royal Gorge for 2 days. Will up date then..

Our day on the road started around 8:30. First stop was the Flying J in Phoenix. Price on the the internet said $3.82.9. Cheaper than in the Mesa area. Also we had found that they now had a new "Frequent Fueler Advantage for RV Drivers card". We went in got the card and then had to activate it at a Kiosk. Always a fun activity. Well, it was worth it. First we found out that the $3.82.9 price was commerical vehicle price. Non commerical diesel price was $374.9 and with the card came another $.03 discount. Who would have thought that a person would get excited paying $3.71.9!!

Today in Mesa was to be about 100 degrees. We were heading to a higher altitude so cooler temps. As we were driving we past many, many saguaros. I always get excited in the fall when I see them cause I know I am getting close to home but today I was saying Good-Bye to them for several months.

Around 4000 feet we started to see the Ponderosa pines and the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees. We were getting close to Flagstaff which is only 200 miles from Mesa but a totally different climate. They have tons of snow in the winter and cool summers.
